MGTC and OGTC Sign Memorandum of Collaboration at IGEM to Advance Solar Energy Initiatives
On October 11, 2024, a significant milestone in Malaysia's renewable energy sector was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) between MGTC (Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation) and OGTC (Ocean Grapes Technology Co. Ltd.) at IGEM (International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia) at 3:00 PM. The event saw the presence of key figures, including Prof. Peter and Lillian Dato Jerry Tan representing OGTC, with MGTC represented by Kamaradzaman Bin Mohd Bakri, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), covering for SDO.
This collaboration represents a significant step forward in Malaysia’s efforts to transition towards renewable energy. The MOC formalizes a partnership between MGTC’s subsidiary, Greentech Catalyst Sdn Bhd, and OGTC, aiming to harness the potential of solar energy. The focus of this collaboration will be the development of innovative solar energy systems, notably through plans to implement a groundbreaking 4.5-gigawatt (GW) floating solar farm.
This massive project not only aims to contribute clean energy to third-party stakeholders but also aligns with Malaysia’s national goal of increasing renewable energy capacity, ultimately contributing to the global climate action agenda.
During the signing, MGTC Group Chief Executive Officer, Shamsul Bahar Mohd Noor, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled about the partnerships we have initiated to set the nation on a new path of sustainability, where advanced technologies and strategic partnerships drive lasting impact.”
He further emphasized the broader objectives of this collaboration: “We will ensure that all initiatives forged extend beyond the convention center, driving economic growth and environmental stewardship in line with this year’s theme, ‘Race Towards Net Zero: Regional Leadership for Climate Urgency.’”
OGTC, renowned for its cutting-edge agricultural biotechnology, especially in algae-based co-production models, brings significant expertise to the partnership. Their unique approach, integrating solar energy with algae cultivation, promises a holistic environmental solution, utilizing Malaysia's water bodies for sustainable energy generation and algae-derived health products.
This collaboration signals a major stride towards achieving Malaysia's renewable energy targets and highlights the role of innovative partnerships in addressing climate change. The success of this project will not only provide clean energy but also open new avenues for economic and job growth, further solidifying Malaysia's leadership in the global race towards a net-zero future.
The MOC signing at IGEM stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in achieving sustainable development, reinforcing the commitment of both MGTC and OGTC to a greener, more resilient future.
